Open Thread: Double Standards in YA

So yesterday's interview with Brigid Kemmerer really got me thinking: IS there a double standard in YA? Do we hold men and women up to different criteria of goodness (the slutty cheerleader vs. the redeamable manwhore) because of our own perceptions as readers, or because it's how the authors present them in text? How much do you think author intent influences the way a reader perceives a character?
